Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for
multiple positions, with rank open, from scholars whose research aligns

seeks faculty candidates who wish to take the future of information and
information applications in their hands. Our department's mission is to
connect people with information and to transform their lives by
transforming information technologies and facilitating the evolution
of the socio-cultural systems they support. New faculty members can have
a real impact on an evolving area in a strong interdisciplinary academic
environment close to the world's largest media and information market.
Underlying research for the three themes that is of special interest to

• cultural, social and institutional analysis

departments: Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, and Library
and Information Science. Academic programs include three undergraduate
majors, two masters, and an interdisciplinary doctoral program that
includes areas of concentration aligned with each of the three
departmental disciplines. Successful applicants will have completed
their Ph.D. by Fall 2009, and will present a program of research and
record of teaching that:

• Complements existing research strengths at SCILS;
• Contributes to a climate of interdisciplinarity across our
departments; and,
• Connects in productive ways with transdisciplinary interest in
problems related to these areas of research within the university at large.

Scholars whose work in these areas incorporates a focus on diversity
most broadly defined, under-represented groups, or gender are especially
encouraged to apply.
