Assistant Dean, School of Library and Information Science (SLIS)

The School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at the Catholic University of America seeks a dedicated library and information professional to manage recruitment, admission, financial aid and strategic planning for SLIS.  The Assistant Dean works closely with the Dean, faculty and students of SLIS.  The Assistant Dean is a member of a 4-person management team that includes the administrative assistant for student support, who is supervised by the Assistant Dean, the administrative assistant for business and facilities, the assistant to the Dean and the Dean.  Working collaboratively with the management team and the faculty, the Assistant Dean helps to develop and implement policies and procedures to further the mission of the School and support the needs of SLIS’s primarily part-time student population.  The Assistant Dean also works collaboratively with other offices on campus to ensure a smoothly functioning operation.

The assistant dean is the primary contact point for students of the School and is responsible for:

1)	Designing and implementing the on-going recruitment program for SLIS including identifying new markets, developing relationships, seeking extramural support and devising a recruitment plan including open house and off-campus locations.
2)	Administering the admission and financial aid processes for SLIS students from application to graduation.  The Assistant Dean is in frequent contact with SLIS students, the Dean, and offices on campus that deal with scholarships, financial aid, student admission and the Registrars Office. 
3)	Acting as the primary contact point for developing and publishing the School’s Schedule of Classes, Web-related communication with students, and supporting the student associations within SLIS.
4)	Working collaboratively with the Dean and faculty to develop and implement the strategic plan for SLIS, preparing the annual budget for SLIS with the Dean and monitoring expenditures regularly.
5)	Developing and implementing policies and procedures for the School.
6)	Supporting the Dean on issues related to curricular reform and accreditation.
7)	Working collaboratively with the full-time and adjunct faculty within SLIS to provide support for teaching and learning and serving on SLIS committees to further the School’s strategic goals related to students, curriculum, administration, facilities, and technology.  

This position is an exciting opportunity for a librarian with administrative skills who is also interested in library and information science education.  Candidates who have skills in administration and have worked with part-time students are preferred.  Candidates who have an interest in supporting the future of LIS education and helping future professionals reach their professional goals also preferred.  Previous experience with student affairs a plus.
