IEEE announced recently that as of 1 January 2006, usage statistics for all
IEEE online subscription package subscribers conform to the COUNTER
standards and protocols governing the recording and exchange of online
usage data.
COUNTER refers to an international set of standards and protocols governing
the recording and exchange of online usage and data.
With these new standards added to the IEEE online subscription package,
IEEE subscribers benefit from a more calculated retrieval of information
while researching online. The new COUNTER standards provide universities
and libraries with a better understanding of how the information they
purchase is utilized, and will allow publishers and industry professionals
to see how the information products they circulate are accessed by
costumers online.
