Renovating Libraries w/ Limited $$
June 20th Toronto-ALA
No matter how long you have been at your library post, shifting funds
and resources
are difficult. In the past, inadequate staff, lack of funds and
increased user
demands can be excuses for the lack of progress. Any one who assumes
responsibility
for the operation of a library finds out that libraries are furniture
and equipment
intensive facilities. The interior design of the furniture, and
equipment layouts,
people and material traffic patterns, workflow, lighting, acoustics and
even
color affect how users and staff work in the library. At the same time,
you
must be aware that budgetary controls are becoming tighter and hard
choices
need to be made. During this workshop, we emphasize do-it-yourself
techniques,
important for librarians who have not have the funds to reinvest without
outside
help.

Note:
All of the workshops will be from 8:30pm to 4:30pm and include coffee,
tea,
and a snack break.

To keep the workshop relevant and on track, the speakers will use focus
groups,
interactive group sessions, and in-depth interviews. Team leaders also
will
share planning methodology and critique attendee projects; participants
can
explore, collaborate, and network at these workshops.
