PATRON LEGAL ISSUES VIDEOCONFERENCE

Records! Public, private? What to save, what to keep? The questions about
library records, patron records, and personnel records come up almost
everyday in a public library. Lynda Murray will review recent changes in
Ohio's revised code and how they impact the confidentiality of your patron
records, the availability of your library administration records, and your
responsibilities to retain records.

READERS' ADVISORY 101: WHO WANTS TO BE A READERS' ADVISOR?
Presented by: Mary Kelly and Chris Korenowsky, Columbus Metropolitan Library
Date/Time: Thu, May 22, 2003 - 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Readers' Advisory is a vital reference service! This workshop will cover the
tools and strategies needed to conduct an effective readers' advisory
reference interview and examine the reading needs of your customers.
Participants in this training workshop will discuss the elements, theories
and related sources behind the readers' advisory process. Learning
objectives include: 1) Developing an understanding of key characteristics of
quality readers' advisory services, 2) Identifying readers' advisory print
and electronic sources to incorporate titles into the Reference Interview,
3) Improving and enhancing usage of the Great Reads portion of the CML web
page, 4) Demonstrating concepts surrounding readers' advisory services
through classroom exercises and post-workshop activities, 5) Evaluating
readers' advisory collection knowledge by examining book reviews, book
discussion groups, and periodical literature. Come to this workshop and gain
the skills necessary to effectively advise your library's patrons!
