ASIST has a long history of recognizing and promoting intellectual and
technological developments that relate to the information professions.
More recently, this has included information architecture (IA).

IA has gained prominence within ASIST as a result of the IA summits, the
IA SIG, and the recent work by the IS Education Committee
(http://www.asis.org/Board/educationprograms.html). IA's role,
development, and longevity as an area of inquiry within the society will
largely depend on the interests and efforts of the ASIST community. With
this in mind, I don't see it going away any time soon.

Best,
Dietmar
