Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The School of
Library and Information Science of the University of South Carolina is
accepting applications for two (2) tenure track faculty positions. The
School seeks one individual whose teaching and research interests
include information retrieval and one individual whose teaching and
research interests include business reference services and government
information sources and services. For each position, expertise in one or
more of the following areas is sought:  archives, collection
development, public library program development, administration and
management, medical informatics, information sources and services,
facilities planning, preservation, and digital libraries. Candidates
will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for and excellence in
teaching, strength in publication showing potential for scholarly
productivity, a strong commitment to distance learning, a
student-centered focus, and the ability to assume a leadership role in
state and national professional communities and the University. 

The School serves state, regional, and national audiences through
campus-based and distance learning programs. It links traditional
library services with changing organizational and technological
environments. The School, fully accredited by the American Library
Association (ALA), and approved by the National Council for the
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), offers the Master of Library
and Information Science degree and two programs of advanced study beyond
the Master's degree: the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in
Library and Information Science and the Specialist in Library and
Information Science.  The School is newly merged with the School of
Journalism and Mass Communications into the College of Mass
Communications and Information Studies.  

Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate by the appointment
date, a clearly-articulated research agenda, and evidence of teaching
excellence. Appointment is expected for August, 2003, on a nine-month
salary commensurate with rank and qualifications. Graduate research
assistance is provided. Separately compensated summer teaching
opportunities are available.
