Karla Petersen, ASIST SIG Cabinet Director for 4 years, and winner of the
Watson Davis Award in 1997, has been promoted to Dean of Libraries at
Loyola University Chicago.

Subject: Dean of Libraries Announcement
I am pleased to announce that Karla D. Petersen has accepted the position
of Dean of Libraries. This appointment is effective July 1, 2002.
Ms. Petersen received her B.S. in Spanish and Secondary Education and with
a minor in English from the University of Minnesota in 1967. She received
her M.A. in Library Science with concentration in Business Administration
from University of Minnesota in 1970. Before coming to Loyola University
Chicago in 1988, Petersen served in various administrative capacities at
The Center for Research Libraries (Chicago), including Director of
Technical Services Division and Head of the Cataloging Department, and at
Hennepin County Library in Minnesota.
Ms. Petersen is serving as the Acting Dean of Libraries this year and
previously served as the Assistant Dean of Libraries for Bibliographic and
Access Services at Loyola University Chicago. Karla has been an active
member of the Loyola community, serving on several important committees and
the Faculty Council. She is a member of the American Society for
Information Science and Technology and has served as an officer and chair
of many committees in this and other professional associations. Karla has
also made numerous presentations to professional groups and at workshops
and institutes.
