Catalog Librarian
  Ina Dillard Russell Library

Founded in 1889, GC&SU serves approximately 5,200 students as Georgia's 
only designated public liberal arts university. Offering majors in more 
than 100 areas, the University seeks to provide undergraduate and graduate 
students with a total learning experience designed to enhance critical 
thinking, effective communication, and lifelong learning. The university is 
located in Milledgeville, Georgia, a community of 38,000 and within easy 
reach of Atlanta and Macon.

GC&SU invites applications for the position of Catalog Librarian at Russell
Library, whose resources include over 180,000 volumes, 1,100 periodical 
subscriptions, extensive microform holdings, and the internationally 
acclaimed Flannery O'Connor Collection. Access to the library catalog and 
periodical databases is provided via GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning 
Online), a statewide library system. The addition/renovation project 
currently underway will make the library the visual and intellectual focal 
point of the campus.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs original and complex copy cataloging 
ofvarious formats and subjects. Serves as primary resource person for 
bibliographic control. Assists with maintenance of the online Voyager 
catalog, including authority control. Contributes to the formulation of 
cataloging policies and procedures. Supervises one library assistant and 
students. Participates in the reference desk schedule rotation. Reports to 
the Assistant Director for Technical Services.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program; a strong 
interest in and coursework related to cataloging; and familiarity with
AACR2, MARC formats, LC subject headings, LC classification, OCLC, and 
automated library systems. Excellent organizational, communication, 
interpersonal, and computer skills.

RANK AND SALARY: This is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment, with faculty 
rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Standard 
benefits package.
