If past history is a guide, then I'd say the one thing we need to do is
argue. At least, last time we were all arguing, I found the results
genuinely useful.

However, this is only worth doing if we can stick to Paola's suggestion that
we keep complaints about the *way* those arguments are conducted *off* the
list. If we can do that, then I think we will be on to a roll (and will
break the The Cycle: http://oii.org/lists/lifecycle.html).

I understand that having what you think is a well-reasoned point demolished
by somebody you've not met is hard. But if you ask me, that's not half as
hard as having that idea dismissed by a paying customer across a boardroom
table. The more demolition the better; both for the participants, and the
community at large. If people are scared by that, remember it's ONLY a
mailing list, after all. Hell, post anonymously if you want.
