That's urban legend.

Web stats are about as accurate as instances of Opera spoofing Firefox or
Netscape spoofing Safari. But if such bogosity can be a measure of anything,
then Firefox has about 15% and Safari about 5% marketshare in the U.S.
Elsewhere, in countries like Finland, Poland or Germany collective IE share
is below 70%-60%. In some segments like education, I'd imagine true IE usage
is well below 50%. (I posted about this here previously.)
