I'm thinking MySpace as a prime example. But in some instances like
that the concept was what made it popular, not the ease of use. When
it comes to e-commerce, which is not a new concept like MySpace, I'm
sure ease of use is a lot more significant. If a simple, easy to use
shopping site was tested against the map approach you can bet which
one would sell more products.
Even if the execution was improved, I still think the map paradigm is
an ill-fitting solution to the problem, for reasons other people have
already mentioned. So why go to all the effort of making the execution
better?
