When I read the post that started the "what happened to the good IAs"
thread, I was a bit confused. Having a hard time finding junior
people? What?
I must say that I am aware of some (many?) junior people who are up
against the usual "only senior IAs need apply" problem. If you are
looking for good junior people, give me a buzz - I know some you might
want to meet! I'm based in LA and that's where the juniors I know are
as well, though most are willing to relocate to some extent.
In LA you will often find juniors who are on the job market showing up
at the local meetings (CHI, IA meetups, etc.) to build their network.
Is that not the case in NYC and other places? Also, by establishing
lines of communication with a local relevant educational program
(i.e., the nearest master's in info science, hci, etc.) you can find
talented junior people. Sure, they may be green in terms of the daily
project grind and churning out Visio docs, but they are often full of
wonderful, fresh ideas and perspectives - and they'll learn the rest
quickly if you provide some guidance.
