Well, I suppose that could happen. Has anyone seen signs that
Microsoft is hiring hardware experts to support a broad integrated
systems initiative?
I live in Seattle and I've been looking for work, so I have kept an
eye on Microsoft. They do seem to be bulking up on senior UI
designers (not so much on the lower end, unfortunately), but I
haven't seen any openings similar to Apple's frequent and well-known
calls for materials experts and industrial designers.
The thing is, an integrated approach requires, as Alan Kay pointed
out, a central crystalizing vision of what you're attempting to
create. That's hard to come by in Microsoft culture as it currently
stands.
