A couple of years ago, someone who was working with a web development/ 
design shop said to me:

"Is it like working with lawyers?"

They were referring to the hourly bills associated with time and  
materials contracts.

I humbly suggest that being compared to lawyers is not good for the  
profession.

Fixed price projects are where it's at, but take substantially better  
project management skills to run.
