I don't have long fingernails (piano lessons growing up), but I'm not sure
that fingernails are the best example, as cutting them is a non-permanent
adaptation, whereas having your *digits* shaved is...well, horrifying. But
your point is well taken--I'd have to say that generally I grumble and
adapt.
