Price of entry (however trivial it may seem) is *not* the problem, control

Aptly put and descriptive of the nature of the act. People who care about
something don't declare it dead and try to sell you a competing product.
Frankly, for some it's always been about selling a book, seminar, meme,
etc., as the nature of their posts (or lack thereof) in the archives would
indicate.

For purposes of historical record keeping, before the other list was formed,
an eerily similar campaign was conducted by a small minority again declaring
this list to be dead, a cesspool, unmanageable and threatening to unsub,
etc. That's why I said nothing new here.
