[Sigia-l] Your take on MySpace

To Listera, on what I called "the elitist mentality" of MySpace users:
(This has little to do with economic or national facts; consider it user
feedback)
First, let me say that, for my needs, Friendster is 100 times better than
MySpace. Since most of my friends are in their twenties, they are
over-the-hill, behind-the-times, and use Friendster. I find more of my
intellectual, professional counterparts there. Plus, I love the
surveillance capabilities of Friendster: I know who's viewed my profile.
And I know they know if I've viewed theirs. For me, it hasn't "crashed and
burned", I use it all the time, as do my friends.
Please keep in mind the following is only my personal experience, but I do
wonder if it might not be totally isolated. Many of my Friends are also on
MySpace, but they are typically the ones who are perhaps less mentally
rigorous and more fixated on cultivating a personality through things as
meaningless as profile background color, playing a song on their profile,
and similar customizations. They are more up-to-date, or fad-oriented.
These are the people who rely on their favorite shows/bands/movies to
describe who they are and how they differ from others, rather than defining
themselves by what they do or think. These people either are or act
younger.
And I said "elitist", because these people are usually only using MySpace,
by choice,
instead of both, which would be, in my opinion, user-friendsterly.
