i still have 2 newtons -- i don't use either of them anymore but they
were my main portable computer at one time. laptops were too heavy
and too big in the mid-90's compared with carrying a newton with a
pager card and a wireless modem (to hookup to my brick-sized
cellphone :)

the newton had a bigger screen and (imo) more capable processor,
which to me meant better usability, than the palm. and newton wasn't
really a pda -- it was more like a portable computer like a laptop so
it was a *perfect* size.

i have a treo 600 now which really doesn't do considerably more than
the newton did. it does have color, phone, camera and video camera
so i can carry 1 device instead of 3 but the "daytimer" functionality
-- which i use all the time -- and document management (read/write
word docs and spreadsheets) hasn't changed or improved much in 10 years.
