time i suppose, although reareading it I didn't make the connection  
as explicitly as I could have.

I think Jakob's research was very current some time ago - although  
the interface for Sun's Solaris OS never struck me as particularly  
well executed.

Rightly or wrongly, User Interfaces these days work in metaphor.  
These metaphors change as time goes by, as do the methods by which we  
analyze their use.

But yes, Norman's work still serves as reasonable reference work with  
much information that could still be considered current. It's just  
that in the years since it was originally published, other works have  
emerged that are more current and fill the same niche.

I have a great deal of respect for Don: just because he was a  
Macintosh pioneer doesn't make him a god forever though.
