You might be surprised, I think, to find out that your characterization of past
or disappointed clients applies to some users of the Google appliance as well.
I think whenever you are evaluting an enterprise search engine the first thing
you need to ask a vendor is, "what do you mean by enterprise?"   This is a key
to the coverage and the functionality you're likely to get.   When you ask this
kind of a question, you can do a better cost-benefit analysis.   You might find
that the high price tags of some engines really cannot be measured against a
full 'enterprise benefit' model!
