Yep. I used to write speeches for various company heads of a very famous
consumer electronics conglomerate. I knew that I was in trouble if I
couldn't distill a long speech into a single paragraph to get the approval
of the executive *and* I knew that if I had that distillation then the rest
would come easily.

As you say, I can't think of a subject/project that cannot be condensed into
a 5-min/5-slide PowerPoint presentation. Indeed, that's what Design is all
about: distillation of options/constraints filtered through
requirements/goals.

Then again, if you're an academic or a pundit that gets paid by word
count...:-)
