This is a little subjective, but there might be a subtle difference between
http://www.client.com/campaign and http://campaign.client.com. The first
tends to mean a branch from the main, possibly with the expectation of
associated navigation and consistent look and feel. The campaign might be
small. It appears as a link in some print media, for example, but the
destination is one page only. The second's intention can be to create a
strong separation, even including a variant look and feel. If the intention
is the second, then an alternative might be to include the brand in the
separate domain name, something like campaignFROMclient.com. This is worth
the effort if the separate area has some size to it and activities there
(e.g., videos, interaction).
