Looking at the design, I would think the amount of heat conducted out of
the water in doing so would bring it below the crucial "just boiled"
temperature required to ping the leaves into life. It's really just a
matter of a degree or two that makes the difference between a pleasant
liquor being released and the dreaded "boiled string" taste.

Now I'm going to have to buy one to prove my theory correct...
