No, however with so many definitions of an IA there's one thing you can
count on - who ever gets hired must be able to use Visio!! Why, because
that's what an IA does isn't it?

In my experience an IA is a discipline that draws together business,
technology and users requiring aspects of various skills ranging from
consultancy, business analyst, project management, interviewer, designer,
writer, salesman, marketing and so on. Visio is just one tool you may need
from an arsenal of many to get the message across -it's the message that is
key!

There are also new tools that may save time, integrate better or improve the
time to market that IA's should be aware of.

Of course I am talking about me and if you are hired to simply draw sitemaps
and create wireframes then I'd suggest you know but are not solely reliant
on tools such as Visio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and a graphics package while
keeping your eyes open for other tools that may increase productivity and
deliver better results.
