Job Description
The Information Manager will manage AP's Information Management group,
working closely with AP's technology, editorial, product development and
business teams to drive AP-wide content standards. This person will define
and execute AP's Information Management strategy; content tagging standards;
integration of classification, taxonomy and metadata management tools; and,
customized news delivery services for members.
The Information Manager will manage a team of taxonomists, as well as
partner with extended teams to implement AP's enterprise-wide content
tagging and delivery strategy. He or she will establish and enforce usage
guidelines across the enterprise and will work directly with content
producers to convey the value and benefits of effective content
classification.
Responsibilities include:
Define and implement standards and processes necessary for all
information and content management, including:
o Taxonomy development
o Maintenance of centralized schemas
o Metadata management
o Automated and manual classification
Manage a team of taxonomists who develop and maintain taxonomies
for new and existing products
Define requirements with business and technical teams for
taxonomy, metadata and classification management
Work with classification software to analyze editorial content
and apply the classification to AP content
Choose controlled lists and/or formatting standards for proper
names (e.g. person/company/brand) for use in AP classification and entity
extraction
Review/evaluate accuracy of automated classification for AP data
feeds and search results
Work with editorial/technology/ product development departments
to implement content tagging and standard vocabularies
Work with editorial/technology/product development to design
workflows for application of corporate taxonomy/metadata standards in
content management systems
Participate in discovery of new opportunities for leveraging AP's
metadata and taxonomy assets
Actively participate in relevant standards organizations, such as
IPTC
Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Library and Information Science
5-7 years demonstrated experience
Facility with automatic classification and taxonomy management
tools
Familiarity with XML standards and application
Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical
audience
Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, multi-project
environment
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
