That would be a great balance: give readers something of value (stronger
community connections or deeper insights) while promoting the book.
Jared does something similar with his UIE newsletters. He gives away
some valuable insight and then promotes his latest event. It works from
this my perspective. Maybe Jared can tell us how well it works from
his?
If the self-promotion itself helped build a stronger community, or was
combined with some valuable knowledge or insight, I think it would be
great for everyone--it might even make for a more powerful promotion.
Perhaps this might be the silver lining in this contentious thread.
