Hello,
The resources that dg provides are great Web2.0 and stealth-startup.
Check out Tim Oren's
New Model Software Startups: Two Stage Ventures, while not specific
research great insight on how to build companies:

In writing the chapter, the best research I found about the "First
Mover Advantage" was in writing Chapter 6 in Bias & Mayhew's
Cost-Justifying Usabiltiy 2nd Ed.: Valuing Usablility for Startups -

Crash? Retrieved

and
Weiss, A. (2000, July 6). Trailblazers on the Internet. Retrieved

Lieberman provides an excellent Internet and non-Internet review of
companies with first mover advantages including a detailed breakdown
of the potential sources of first mover advantage.
Lieberman concludes that there are significant first-mover advantages
for "pioneers in environments with network effects, and firms with key
patents." Even for firms with these key attributes, on the Internet
the effect of the first-mover advantage was not as great as many
entrepreneurs and investors expected.
Cheers,
David
