Not sure about Safari/Firefox on Mac but it does animate on IE/Firefox on 
Windows with a 5 second gap between each graphic. However, (and I just 
discovered it this morning) the animation stops on rollover and the 
navigation arrows appear.

Yes, but that could be a bad thing as it's not otherwise apparent that you 
can control the animation and go to a story that you may have just missed. 
I'd prefer the navigation arrows to stay there permanently.

I agree, but it doesn't belong in the middle of the content that interests 
me. Like the previous-next links, it's place is at the end of the story.
