"Semantic web refers to a framework that allows data to be shared and reused
across application, enterprise, and community boundaries ... It is based on
the Resource Description Framework (RDF) which integrates a variety of
applications using XML for syntax and URIs for naming... Semantic web is an
extension of the current web in which information is given well-defined
meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation".

Calling it "Semantic" is a bit of a misnomer since machines cannot
understand meaning. There really is no such thing as "semantic html". The
term "semantic html" usually refers to html that is "well formed" and
conforms to a w3c standard, usually xhtml 1.0 loose, transitional, or
strict.
