[Sigia-l] Comparing search engines

I'm working with a team that will be implementing a new search engine on 
a web site soon, and am wondering how to do comparative tests between 
different engines.  

Any suggestions on to approach this kind of comparison?  I'm struggling 
with how to quickly test "relevance" of results when doing head-to-head 
comparisons - especially with limited time and resources.
