How did you arrive at the conclusion that users actually want
randomly/loosely assembled content?

The difficulty of labeling this may in fact suggest its own solution:
Googlize it. 

That is, give them a single entry point (Searchbox) and manage
categorization through the result set. More difficult for you, easier for
the user.
