[Sigia-l] is there a word

Christina --

I get a digest, so please forgive me if someone has already noted this.

The United Nations has specified international standards for symbols
(or iconography) with many specific meanings. These include, for
example, the blue circle with an "i" for "information." You can poke
around the United Nations web site for more information on the official
symbols.

    www.un.org

(Of course, U.S. federal and state governments, U.S. companies, etc.
routinely ignore UN standards all around, but that's another matter
altogether...)

In general, when thinking about groups of icons or symbols, I might
think about all offerings by a single vendor as their "library", but I
would also use the word "library" to refer to the vendor's own sub-
groups, such as a package of travel-related icons.

In addition, the vendor might offer, say, two different styles of
travel-related icons: one group that uses aqua as its accent color,
the other using a green. So for groups of icons that appear to be
visually related according to their design style, I would call them
a "family."

I'm not sure if this email helps, but I thought I'd toss my $.02 just
in case.

Cheers,
Anthony
