Excellent one.

I choose to agree with Ziya. Only when we see "design" as a profession
different than "engineering/science/art/development/coding" will we get to
a common ground to define our jobs/roles with absolute clarity. The whole
debate of "defining our profession" will come to a common ground. Most of
the problem in many organizations is that they can't differentiate domains
of "design" from "Science" and "Art". They do overlap all the time,
however, not recognizing the domains that are overlapping, is myopic.

I come from "Design" education and always wondered why we are so fanatic
about adopting the industry jargons and abolishing the already established
ones...(?) And I always thought Information Architecture, Interface
Design, User Experience are all great terms to package "design" to the
software market place.

At the end of the day, whether you feel elevated playing with
"information" or with the "interface", you are designing. You may be a
graphic designer, or librarian, or programmer, or expert from psychology
to come to this profession, you will apply the wisdom of “design” to carry
your day.

Having said that, I am not averse of any "marketing" or "PR" efforts to
sell our skills. Rather it is great if it can create more jobs and bigger
budgets for this profession. However, we should know that the only
unifying thing among so many people, from so diverse backgrounds, in this
list is that they all fall in the domain of "design".
