The Project Management Institute (PMI) has something called the PMBOK --
The Project Management Book of Knowledge. It is the focal point of their
certification exam.
I'm not suggesting a certification exam, but the concept of a core
industry reference for information architecture, well...there's goodness
in that. It seems AIfIA is moving toward that already.
Is there some external driver pushing the discipline toward
standardization? Or is it a "We don't get no respect" syndrome? If our
customers came to us with either of those reasons as one to create and
design a new web project we would challenge them immediately. The IA
community should institute standards when they are needed to move the
discipline forward. I'm not seeing the need right now.
Later!
