I am actually in the content creation business as well as in the information
delivery business, so for me the job is separating and clarifying the two in
my own mind. I call myself an Information Designer, because it matches what
I do better than Information Architect.
Boston-IA (www.Boston-IA.org), the organization I founded to bring together
Information Architecture and Internet Accessibility, should appeal to people
who work with both content and with structures for delivery, because we must
pay attention to the meaning of the content when designing for
accessibility. At this point, we are not dealing with 10TB of data just
yet. We are dealing with an Internet that ignores the needs of people
listening to screen content rather than seeing it. An Internet that could
provide a world of meaning to people who really need it as a primary
information source-- if we weren't designing the barriers in.
