To invoke Al Haig, who's in charge here? :-)
Since we are talking about who is/can be the bridge between design and
development, I still think the jury is still out on who will lead the
(overall) design side of the product creation process.
But my goal in pushing for a prototype-centric design process is somewhat
different. I'm actually less interested in who 'owns' the bridge. What I'd
like is for the two banks of the river to come much closer so that the
prototype obviates the need for a bridge to a large extent by becoming a
gigantic billboard, if you will, on the design bank. Something which the
developers can easily look out and see without having to cross a bridge to
turn the blueprint into executable code. To the extent the prototype removes
much of the ambiguity and, likely, anticipates potential developer
questions, the need for a bridge, and the attendant ownership issues become
secondary. I'd love that to be future direction.
