Darcy,
Interesting questions. The other word to throw into the mix is Content.
I have seen the three: data, information, and content used similarly.
More often, I see overlap between content and information (when does
information become content? when is content not information?) and
data and information (what makes data informative? Is all data
information? Is all information based on data?)
