I¹m not exactly sure what you are after.
What I was referring to with my questions is this: there's a distinction
between tools that can prototype essentially *static* applications and those
that can prototype *dynamic/interactive* apps, with variable data,
dynamically generated from an external (server) source.
It also matters to whom (and at what level at an organization) you are
delivering these prototypes. Prototypes tend to have different functions:
some try to impress and sell (higher ups), some inform (developers), some
form the basis of acceptance/documentation (contractual), and so on.
Needless to say, the biggest factor is what you know and what you are
desirous/capable of learning. For example, Director, Word and WebObjects
are/can be all prototyping tools, but, as I am sure you are aware, they are
very different animals. It's unrealistic to expect a single person (or even
a small shop) to be proficient in creating prototypes with all of them.
Coming from a prototype-centric world, I'd want a narrower definition of
your goals to better identify suitable tools.
