Even though the rooms at the Palace are discounted for attendees, $195/night
is still quite high.

A quick trip around Hotwire.com revealed a bunch of cheaper options in the
area. For those not familiar with San Francisco, select these areas:
Downtown - Convention Center    
Downtown - Embarcadero Area    
Downtown - Union Square West

All are within walking distance of the Palace.
