As follow-up to my job posting of Friday 5/2/2003, please note the following description for a short-term contract opportunity:

Summary
The core responsibilities of the contracted Interaction Designer are:
1. To assess existing content inventory to ensure defined content types are accounted for;
2. To identify and design display modules for Line of Business-owned content being migrated to content management system; and
3. To ensure that the interfaces for various portlets are easy to use, consistent with the global navigation and style elements and functional.

Key Responsibilities
-Evaluate business requirements working with line of business representatives
-Collaborate with usability engineer and interaction design team to determine user requirements through task analysis
-Understand the technical constraints of the core products and design most usable interface possible
-Develop high-level information flows and navigation systems for display modules
-Develop detailed page schematics
-Collaborate with the user experience team to ensure designs are consistent with global navigation and style elements
-Participate in the development of product prototypes for usability testing and proof of concept purposes
-Participate in usability tests by helping to define methodology, conducting walk-throughs, and developing reports
-Represent solutions to the Line of Business

Required Experience and Skills
-Minimum 3 years web application interaction design experience
-Demonstrated knowledge of the user-centered  design process, particularly as it pertains to web applications
-Demonstrated ability to identify user requirements
-Ability to understand and interpret existing site design and style guides and create effective solutions within those guidelines
-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through various formats (oral, written, graphic design) with staff and clients, both individually and in groups
-Demonstrated experience designing interfaces for content management systems 
-Demonstrated experience designing interfaces for intranet applications
-Working knowledge of various web-related technologies including HTML, XML, JavaScript preferred
-Working knowledge of visual design tools including Visio, Photoshop, Illustrator preferred
-Strong organizational skills
-Deadline- and detail-oriented
-Ability to multi-task
-Highly motivated toward continuous improvement and the ability to motivate others
-Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to conflict situations

-Charlotte, NC (local resource preferred)
