Look, the problem with your example wasn't the lack of technical details, as
you claim; it was the irony. Of all the examples you could have chosen, you
picked one that pretty much proves the opposite of what you intended: that
at least one OS gives you tinkerability *and* abstraction. OSX offers the
unixheads all the ability to fiddle with the plumbing while providing
non-geeks a highly abstracted and insulated view of the same. There are even
various bridges between two realms, from GUI wrappers like TinkerTool to
AppleScript/CLI integration.
So to sum up and bring the issue back on topic (wrt to this list),
tinkerability and abstraction need not be mutually exclusive, even if it's
more difficult to achieve. I think you now recognize this, so perhaps we can
move on.
