Just a happy reminder for any stuck in a 'meta'-disposition:
A marking condition does not necessarily have to be 'meta' (2nd-level
order). It often is a logical one (arrangement). -->
For instance, electrical signals can be processed as either alternating
current (AC) or direct current (DC) -- both logical first-level orders.
Communication hardware can have both 'male' and 'female' connectors (an
inherent order) -- human 'gender/sex' also works this way.
Web content can be *semantically* marked (logical and first-level) as
opposed to attaching (2nd-level) 'meta' order.
All of these *logical* distinctions (not 2nd-level attached/descriptive)
are 'processual' as opposed to 'affectual' in use. They operate on the
level of *how* and not on the level of *what* -- meaning as first-level
orders they are 'structuring structures' and not 'ends' (findabililty)
which circumcise/bend original concern.
In short, first-level distinction is an inherent quality and should be
preferred to narrow positivist-fixes (2nd-level order).

This is a radically damaging and limiting view of IA and Information
Management which opposes freedom, common-sense, and objectivity.
It is also, most notably, the *laziest* solution (cowardice). IMHO.
