Along with context come audience.  It is the reader who determines what is 
data and what is information.  Even with the Dell and HP numbers, one stock 
analyst might view them as data today and information tomorrow while he 
works on a portfolio analysis.

It seems like much of this discussion is trying to define data and 
information as stand alone terms.  I don't think that can be 
done.  Audience comes into play.
