[Sigia-l] Programming IAs was: Little things an IA MUST know /do

I have a Master's of Professional Studies from NYU in Interactive
Telecommunications Program. When I attended in '97 everyone had to take four
foundation courses that covered basic visual design, basic programming (not
HTML), science (mostly electronics) and telecommunications infrastructure.
Aside from those four, the degree is largely self driven and the alumni are
all over the board in their careers from IA to Broadband Analysists to CTOs.

But those four foundation courses are critical. I can talk delivery
mechanisms, object oriented programming and color theory. And when push
comes to shove I can light a light bulb with a battery and wire. I would
encourage all IAs to have a broad foundation that also includes basic
business concepts (profit and loss), mediation and negotiation, as well as
the ability to write concisely. Everything else is contextual. What are your
interests, background, job and career goals, etc.
