Out of all the options you've listed, this is the one that my company 
uses, and works like a champ in our experience. Specifically, we set up 
redirects for our client sites, so they can hit 
http://www.company.com/short/ and be whisked away to 
http://www.company.com//deep/url/that/is/hard/to/remember.
