And similarly, I hope they'll avoid using any AIfIA list to bleed off general
discussions of IA from the SIGIA list. Perhaps I'm biased, but this is the
approach I took when I created the Information Design special interest
group in STC. There was already an excellent, well-traffic'd list* for more
general discussions of ID, so I made the STC list a member-only list that
is reserved for items specific to STC or SIG membership.
I'm already a charter member of the AIfIA (for $60 for two years? such a
good deal :), so it's not like I'm afraid I'll miss anything. But I think it
would be good community spirit to avoid setting up any appearance
of cliques (especially since the model is for associations to be open with
their subject lists, as AIGA, CHI, and ASIS have been...cheers to them!).
