Definitely.  I had the same problem with a church site.  The church 
president absolutely insisted on using a splash screen, despite all the 
many arguments I made against one.  So we wound up using the splash 
screen for contact information, and a list of teasers for the current 
month's sermons (which is actually one of the main things people visit 
the site for).  At least now the splash screen is useful...and it puts 
some key information right up front where people don't have to search 
for it.
