[Sigia-l] Useful Splash Screens

I'm a fervent disliker of splash screens, but this one could be made useful
by taking it as a chance to assuage the biggest fears about living in a
nursing home: loss of privacy; ugly surroundings; a dingy, hospitalish feel,
etc.. A collection of the right kinds of images of the nursing home could
help to create a reassuring opening. I'd avoid a lot of images of residents,
unless the focus is still on the surroundings, as photos of people can look
as though you just picked them out of a photo stock book.

I have a client who is convinced that a splash screen for their web site is
a necessary evil. If it turns out that I'm unsuccessful in convincing them
otherwise, what would you suggest are some ways we could make the splash
screen useful. The site is for a nursing home facility. The audience is
primarily the family and friends of nursing home residents or potential
residents.

I appreciate your thoughts and experience!
