[Sigia-l] Category label and context

I've found that sometimes category names need to be
longer when they're out of context. For example
Clothing
Coats
Macintosh
In this context it's clear what a Macintosh is. But
(through the magic of IA) the category label Macintosh
might appear in another context which would decrease
the clarity of the label, it might be thought a model
of computer or a brand of audio equipment. And so I'd
revise it to something like:
Clothing
Coats
Macintosh (coat)
And while these labels can look unweildy, my instinct
tells me it's a case of clarity over brevity (see
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/library/us-brevity.html?dwzone=usability).
Sooooo...does anyone know of existing thought on this
issue? I would guess the LIS field would have
addressed this already. Thanks.
